    1827 U.S. Large Cent
    Countermarked "E. JEFFERIS"
Raised letters in relief within a rectangular depression (hallmark style).
Hallmark of Emmor Jefferis (1804 - 1892), a Wilmington, Delaware silversmith and dentist. First advertised himself as a silversmith in 1827. In 1832 took over Joseph Draper's shop and business when the latter left the state (Draper also countermarked coins). He was located at 77 Market Street in 1832 when he took over the business. He was in a partnership (Guthrie & Jefferis) circa 1840. He switched professions to dentistry in 1842.
I have two antique silver spoons in my collection that are stamped with this same mark.
