1920's Sterling Silver Joint? box

Description

Provenience; This was given to my mother in 1920 or 30. Filter cigarettes did not come on the market until the early 50's. So it was used for 3 decades. Her initials, SPE are on the front but I do not see a makers mark
.
Size of the case is 2 3/4, by 2 1/2
