Description
For your consideration is this infrequently seen 2009 S Bicentennial Lincoln Cent PCGS PR 69DCAM 4 Coin Legacy SetThe year 2009 earmarks the momentous 200th Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. In addition, it delineates the 100th Anniversary of the extremely popular Lincoln cent coins.
To celebrate these two historic moments, the U.S. Mint introduced 2009 Lincoln cents with four new and distinct reverse designs.
The
first
of the four designs was the
2009 Lincoln Cent Childhood and Birthplace
design, also referred to as the Log Cabin.
The first coin in the series was released on February 12, which also happens to be Abraham Lincoln’s birthdate. To celebrate the launch of the first new 2009 Lincoln cent design, the Mint held a special ceremony in Hodgenville, Kentucky where it exchanged the new coins with those in attendance.
Proof 2009 Lincoln cents with the four different designs were also produced. They can be distinguished by the S mint mark, since they were produced at the San Francisco Mint.
The 2009 Formative Years Lincoln cent design represents Lincolns life when he was a rail splitter from 1816-1830 in Indiana. This is the
second
of four different reverse designs used in 2009 for the Lincoln cent coin.
The 2009-S Professional Lincoln cent design represents Abraham Lincoln's Professional life in Illinois, from about 1830-1860. This is also the
third
theme of four different designs used
in 2009 for the Lincoln cent. Each design represents a memorable time in Lincoln's life.
The 2009-P Lincoln Presidency cent is the
last of the four
different designs issued in 2009 for the Lincoln cent.
Obverse: The obverse features Abraham Lincolns bust with the words, In God We Trust, Liberty and the year 2009.
Reverse: The reverse features an unfinished United States Capitol Dome. The dome was under construction when Lincoln became President.
