DANISH STERLING SILVER ART DECO VIDE POCHE, CIGAR BOX, 1928

Description

Elegant and Classic, this High Art Deco Sterling Silver Box was made by S & C Bochner, silversmiths from Arhus, Denmark, in 1928.
The box, with it's gracefully curved and rounded lip can house your cigars, serve as a handsome vide poche or desktop accessory or as a mini jewelry box (add a bit of velvet or satin lining).   An oval cartouche encircled by a raised tulip or foliate design awaits your monogram.  A very gentle  hammered finish plays up the lovely lines of the box.
The box is heavy for its size - a full seven ounces of sterling silver.    It measures 4 7/8 inches wide by 3 1/8 inches high by 1 3/16th inches deep.   The silver shines brilliantly.
Marked inside with maker, S & C Bochner, an A in circle, the Three Castle Danish control mark signifying silver purity as sterling, with date "28".   Solid silver throughout box.  Condition is good; cover fits well, hinges excellent and working well.   One tiny ding on bottom left side visible primarily on inside.   (Dark spots in pix are reflections due to  my poor photography.)
The Bochner silversmiths were located in Arhus, Denmark from 1926 to l937.  This elegant Sterling Silver box is a special  gift  for the discriminating, or fine addition to a cigar or cigarette box collection.  It dates from  the height of the Art Deco Period when sophistication  reigned.
