    Description

This is a great light fixture from M.E.P. Inc.  I can't find any company history, although there is a lighting specialty company in Aurora Colorado which may be its descendant.  I do see lots of 1920s and 1930s light fixtures available for this company, all in cast metals.
This ceiling fixture features a large circle medallion, surrounded by 4 stars and surmounted by an acorn finial.  Where two bulbs would be inserted on either end, the edges are wrapped in laurel wreaths.  On the side of the circle medallion, there are two fascia bundles, a frequent emblem in Italinate and governmental decor. Elements on this piece are frequently seen in governmental art, so I assume this was in a municipal government building.
Underside of light is painted grey.  It is impressed with the following:  "Pat. Appl. For / M. E. P. Inc / B312".  Ceramic sockets are impressed: "Leviton / 8101 / Z50V660W"
In the 1920's, many folks were just getting electricity for the first time.  The style was to have exposed bulbs, with no shade, so guests could see you were wealthy enough to have new-fangled electricity.  Consequently, I don't think the bulbs were ever covered by shades.  Edison bulbs will look quite right with this fixture.
The piece is painted a light cornmeal gold, with faint gold trim on the bulb surrounds, laurel wreaths and fascia.  This must have been affixed to an ivory painted surface, because there are ivory pain splatters in a few spots on the outer rims of the light.
Note I am not an electrician.  I made a perusal of the wiring, which needs to be replaced.  The ceramic sockets appear good, and, unless there is a construction code prohibition of which I am not aware, those are still serviceable.

The item listed is being sold as is, as pictured and as described to the best of my knowledge.  If you have a question on an item prior to purchase, please ask. Remember, when buying used or vintage expect imperfections as these items have a history and have been in the possession of others. I try to list EVERY flaw which would be commented on something in an antique or vintage condition – this does not mean all imperfections resulting from normal wear & use require comment. My goal is to have no rude surprises upon receipt.
