At the crossing of the Burlington Northern and SOO Line and along the Illinois shores of the Mississippi River, Savanna has long been a railroad hub and a destination for railfans.
For 5 years starting in 1988 and until 1993, we documented these two historic rail lines.
With scenes from the 4 track diamond crossing, to the East end at Plum, and several unique locations in-between here's 2 hours from the twilight era of Upper Midwest railroading.
So many of our vantage points captured never to be seen again footage;
-the last of the vast Milwaukee Road yard,
-rainbow bridges
-cabooses
-BN "B" units
-and a big assortment of motive power from the Oakway and LMX lease locos to the new arrivals of candy apple red SOO SD60s, and the variety of BN paint schemes.
There are no Canadian Pacific, Canadian National, Norfolk Southern, CSX or Union Pacific locos.
You'll know at all times exactly which railroad you're looking at!
With routes extending to at least 4 directions you'll see;
-Boeing loads coming off the Barstow Sub
-Kansas City and Pacific Northwest inter-modal
-grain and complete views of manifest trains
For 5 years starting in 1988 and until 1993, we documented these two historic rail lines.
other highlights include
-SOO SD40 742  leads an EB freight through the yard at Savanna. Seen crossing diamonds, overhead from  the Rt84 bridge looking west and east. Both bridge views offer panoramic looks at what is left of the huge yard. Lots of rolling stock still parked. Old trestle highway bridge still standing.
-Rio Grande tunnel motor on the SOO leading an EB into Savanna with SP and Cotton Belt power.
-BN scenes from high above the Mississippi on the bluffs at Palisades State park
-SOO across the river at Sabula, Iowa heading towards Savanna
-MOW scenes.
-Scale car.
-Snow plow
Great natural sound from our quiet locations is re-mastered (no music beds or narration on the DVD)
Maps show locations and vantage point (direction) of the sequences.
